Once you re-upholster your furniture, the proper care can greatly extend the life of your pieces. Use the following tips to ensure that your beautiful furnishings remain as a part of your home décor for many years to come.
Vacuum your upholstery about once a week to get rid of dirt and dust that could eventually damage the fabric. Rotate the cushions every few weeks to prevent uneven wear and tear. Do not let your pets onto the furniture and be careful to remove any pet hair from the cushions. Be careful about placing your furniture too close to a window or you could have issues with the fabric fading.

Color is an important decorating tool that can change the look and feel of a space. 2014 brings some fabulous color trends that can do wonders for your décor. Keep reading to learn more about some of the most popular hues for this season.
Instead of traditional neutrals, liven up your interior with one of the new hues that can serve as the foundation for your interior design. Camel brown and grey add depth and visual stimulation to your space without overpowering the room. They also look great next to brighter, bolder shades that you use in smaller doses.
Have some fun with your interior by incorporating some of 2014’s biggest and boldest hues. Radiant Orchid is a fun and fabulous color that can add texture to any room. Mix and match a few throw pillows, window treatments, or area rugs with a vibrant color like this to add some life to a room. Dazzling blue is another color that is bold enough to bring your home décor to a new level. Just be sure to use these bigger colors sparingly so you do not overwhelm the eye.
Take your design possibilities up a notch with an accent wall in a color that catches some major attention. Choose a color like cayenne or hemlock as an accent wall for the living room, dining room, or even your bedroom to get a unique aesthetic appeal in your space.

New upholstery can completely transform the look and feel of any piece of furniture in your home. Instead of buying new pieces, consider re-upholstering the furniture that you already own to create something new and unique for your interior design. This guide will help you figure out the best way to breathe new life into your chairs and sofas with updated fabrics.
Your Furniture Should Be in Good Condition
Before you fully commit to the idea of re-upholstering, it is important to check on the condition of your furniture. If your chair or sofa is still structurally sound and feels comfortable when you sit in it, it is probably a good candidate for re-upholstering. Be thorough when examining the furniture to ensure that it will last for many more years.
You Should Work with a Reputable Re-Upholsterer
It is very important to do some research to find a company that will do a quality job of re-upholstering your furniture. Ask for referrals from friends and family and spend some time asking any potential re-upholsterer questions before you agree to work with them. This will give you confidence that they can provide the kinds of services and quality that you need.
You Should Figure Out Exactly How Much Fabric You Will Need
Get an accurate estimate of the amount of fabric you need to cover your furniture before the job begins. This will help you figure out the exact costs for the re-upholstery and give you a better idea of what to expect from the final outcome.

Don’t let red wine ruin the aesthetic appeal of your upholstery. If you spill a glass of Malbec or Merlot on your beautiful fabric, use the following tips to remove it before it becomes a permanent stain.
The best chance you have of removing a stain is addressing it as soon as possible. Use a clean cloth to blot up any excess liquid. You can blot a little bit of cold water onto the area to try to decrease the severity of the color. If your fabric can handle water, combine one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and two cups of water. Use a sponge to dab the mixture onto the stain and blot it until it is gone. If you cannot use water on the fabric, you can use a dry-cleaning solution to get rid of the spot.
If your upholstery has seen better days, come to Designer Fabrics to re-upholster with fresh, new fabric. We also have a great selection of window treatments to complete your décor. Serving the Denver Metro area since 1981 and located in Centennial, Colorado, we bring you the selection and services you deserve. Call (303) 872-9476 to learn more.
